The University of Stirling offers strong academics, excellent support for study abroad students, and a beautiful campus with outstanding library and fitness facilities. Students normally take three courses worth five credit hours, for a total of 15 hours for a semester program. Courses in most Mount Mercy majors are available at Stirling, which also has a variety of courses that may meet domain requirements or serve as interesting electives. Students pre-register for courses, ensuring that credits will transfer. Courses available include applied social sciences, biology, business, communica-tions, computer science, criminology, economics, education, English, film, history, journalism, law, mathematics, nursing, politics, psychology, religion, sociology, and more. Housing is a short walk from classrooms, the library, restaurants, shopping, and social areas. Fitness facilities include swim-ming pools, tennis courts, as well as a state-of-the-art fitness center. Stirling is a smaller, historic city just an hour by bus or train from Edinburgh and Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland and with easy connections to other cities in Europe. In the heart of Scotland, Stirling is close to both highland and lowlands, which offer opportunities for hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, and sailing. Visitors to Sterling remark on the beauty of the castle and the friendli-ness of the people. Other Information Students will normally earn 15 credit hours for the semester in Sterling. The cost for a semester at Stirling will be your normal Mount Mercy tuition, plus the cost of residence hall housing at Stirling. Students eligible for federal Pell Grants should consider applying for the Gilman Scholarship for Study Abroad, which can provide up to $5,000 funding for a study abroad program. Application requirements: 3.0 grade point average and submission of University of Stirling application packet. Appli-cations should be submitted to Mount Mercy’s Office of International Programs by March 15 for fall semester, or by October 10 for spring semester.
