Mount Mercy’s study abroad program with Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) may be for you. Program Details You can take two courses on British studies, including Modern Britain (required for all students) and a choice of British History Survey OR British Literature Survey. In addition, students can choose courses from CCCU’s offerings, which include business, communications, criminal justice, English, history, social sciences, and law. A sample list of courses available in previous years is available from the Office of International Programs. The British studies program includes a number of mandatory field trips which provide you with first-hand experiences that complement what you are learning in classes. Recent field trips have included London (Globe Theatre, Tower of London, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Museum of London); Dover Cliffs and Castle; and southern England (Winchester, Stonehenge, Bath, Bristol and Oxford). Student Life You can live in on-campus accommodations, with a mixture of British and international students, or can choose to live with host families near the university. CCCU provides a full range of student services, including clubs, fitness center, library, and volunteer opportunities. Canterbury, a city of around 45,000 is home to two universities, and offers a lively social environment with restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops. The city is home to the world-renowned Canterbury Cathedral, many historic churches and abbeys, and several museums. Outdoor activities available including walking, golfing, biking, and boat rides. The coastal towns of Whitstable and Herne Bay, with their seaside attractions, are just a short ride from Canterbury.
